adrian frutiger was known as a type designer, and he created the univers font during the mid-twentieth century. throughout his lifetime, he created about one hundred and seventy typefaces. after being an apprentice as a compositor, he went to school in switzerland for two years, and then went to paris in 1952 and worked as a typeface designer and artistic manager. he founded his own studio in 1961. univers was the first to show a type family with different weights; it also has no serifs. he also created the fonts serifa, frutiger, linotype, and avenir. his main focus when creating fonts is legibility while reading, as well as creating them universally applicable. he claimed that the univers font was the model for both serifa and glypha, which he made in the following years. the univers font is now available in 27 different variations, and allows for flexibility when designing large display sizes as well as small sizes.
adrian frutiger continues to shape the type world with this typefaces, as his fonts are still being used worldwide today.
