5 that are dead:

alvin lustig
went to los angeles community college and studied with frank lloyd wright.
established his first design firm in 1937 that spanned many platforms and disciplines.
designed many book covers and magazines.

erik nitsche
worked all over europe and america making editorial illustrations for magazines.
did a variety of freelance work as well.
worked for General Dynamics for many years during the end of his career.

saul bass
attended vocational art students league of new york in 1936.
conquered corporate identity, film titling, marketing, packaging, and filmmaking.
also was involved in filmmaking, and made for companies such as kodak.

paul rand
mostly self-taught, but went to the pratt institute.
created many book jackets and magazine covers as a freelancer.
also contributed to the corporate identity movement, mainly IBM.

muriel cooper
ran her own design firm in milan.
designed the now iconic logo for MIT press, and became the art director there.
responsible for designing hundreds of book covers.

5 that are alive:

robert massin
mastered and revolutionize book covers and layouts.
he was hired by a french publishing house and worked there for twenty years, directing the covers and layouts.

massimo vignelli
collaborated with his wife in many projects.
taught at the institute of design at chicago while also doing research.
co-founded unimark international


brian collins
attended parsons school of design and massachusetts college of art.
first designer to participate in the world economic form in davos, switzerland.
currently working on public good projects.

rick valicenti
studied photography at the university of iowa.
started his own business in 1981, which initially did editorial and corporate collateral work.
developed a unique style of design, photography, lettering, illustration, and messaging.

art chantry
became art director for the magazine "the rocket" in 1984.
often took freelance assignments with nordstrom and safeco insurance.
most admired for his posters.
